Emergency Crime Prevention Meeting September 6,
2007 Report on Emergency Crime Prevention meeting of the associations of the Wildwood Neighborhood and the residents of Jordan Park. Matt Sullivan, Vice Chair of the Pinellas County Juvenile Justice Council attended the Jordan Park meeting on Thursday, September 6 at 5:30 pm in the Multipurpose Room at the Wildwood Center located at 1000 28th St S in St. Petersburg. The reason for the meeting was the residents concern of the increase in crime in the Midtown area along 22nd street south commercial area and the Jordan Park housing development as well as the Wildwood neighborhood. The meeting was well attended by the Saint Petersburg Police from the Chief of Police, Asst. Chief, neighborhood police, numerous other officers, and staff. Also invited to attend were St.Petersburg Councilwoman Flowers, with Dept. of Juvenile Justice Assist. Probation Chief Ulysses Connelly and Ms Pat McGee, and Vice Chair of the Pinellas County Juvenile Justice Council Matt Sullivan. Councilwoman Flowers said the City is determined to not have Jordan Park return to the conditionsof the past. She said that she would check into the security coverage that was in place by the Housing Authority at the reopening of Jordon Park and review those contracts to see what security requirements that were required. The Police Chief said their would be a greater police coverage 24/7 throughout the area and the introduction of a tip line for reporting of crime. Ulysesses Connelly talked of increase in females involved in crime and that the 21 day detention is a requirement of the legislator. Pat McGee talked of the grants that the comminity groups could apply for with the Dept. of Juvenile Justice. Matt Sullivan talked of the work of the Council to keep youth in school instead of in the community getting in trouble and involved the Justice System. We need more school for troubled children not not less. All stated the importance of all being pro-active and reporting crime. Fifteen people signed up for a Crime Watch Class to be taught by Officer Johnny Harris on Saturday September 8th at 9:00a.m. in the Community Room at Jordan Park.
