Juvenile Justice Council Call to Order Chair Dave Plyer called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. Public Comment None at this time. The meeting roster follows: ACTIVE VOTING MEMBERS:

Roll call was taken and a quorum was present. In the absence of a Secretary, meeting minutes were taken by Membership Registrar Cathy Corry. Approval of Minutes Reading of the April 26, 2007 meeting minutes was waived, without objection. Meeting minutes were approved as submitted. Report from the Chair Chair Dave Plyer provided a brief review of the following topics: Overview of the 4/30/07 Circuit 6 Juvenile Justice Board meeting. The Chair recommended that the Council “demand” that “Calvin Harris apologize, in writing, to the members of the Pinellas County Juvenile Justice Council for his despicable, if not illegal, behavior towards the Council over the past year.” There was no objection. Update of intent to write letter to Attorney General. Update of grant review process, recommendations and awards. Overview of quarterly Board & Council Chairs’ meeting held 5/21/07 and 5/22/07 in Tallahassee. The Chair report was submitted for the record. Chair announced next Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 28, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at Seminole Community Library. New Business Bruce Wright expressed concerns about the lack of relevance and lack of effectiveness of Street Safe for homeless youth, and the increasing problem of juvenile violence against homeless. Dennis Segall suggested having participation of juvenile council chair. Greg Pound suggested that the Council go into the schools to listen to youth. There was lengthy discussion regarding ease of access vs. barriers to gaining access to the schools. Ideas brought forth included incorporating volunteer hours; involving clergy; including afterschool activities as community outreach; advertising a community forum on YouTube and MySpace; Great American Teach-In in November. Time will be allotted at next Council meeting (June 28) for further discussion. Council Member Announcements Bonnie McClelland announced that Governor Crist signed into law the creation of the Office of Suicide Prevention. She also shared that July 14th will be the 6th annual Evening of Remembrance event. Public Comment Kevin Walker stated that the Governor’s Children’s Cabinet is being organized.
