DUI arrest of Pinellas JDC Superintendent Uliasz on July 25, 2006
On August
24, 2006, the Council approved a request to DJJ that Pinellas JDC Superintendent
James Uliasz be placed on administrative leave or reassigned to a non-youth
contact position as a result of his arrest for DUI on July 25, 2006. The Council
has received word that DJJ put a letter of reprimand in Uliasz’s permanent
personnel file; that he has completed the Employee Assistance Program and
remains on the job as superintendent.
A transcript of the email correspondence
was emailed to Council members and
is submitted for the record.
2005-06 Circuit Board Annual Overview Report
The Executive Committee
completed a draft of the Council’s portion of the Circuit Board Annual Overview
Report. A copy of Parts II, III and IV of the report that apply to the Council
was sent by email to all council members for review prior this meeting. A draft
copy is provided for the record. The report will be discussed under new
business.
Meeting of Circuit 6 Juvenile Justice Board
The meeting began on time at
2:00pm on September 18, 2006. Board Chair, Calvin Harris, announced that future
meetings of the Board would be held in a larger facility. He also announced the
dates of the four Board meetings in 2007: two in Pasco County and two in
Pinellas County; locations to be determined. I asked if any meetings would be
held in the evening. Harris said, “No!” Harris proposed that the Board establish
an advisory council. The proposal was moved and the motion passed. I cast the
only dissenting vote. The Board elected its Vice Chair, Paul McClintock, a
member of the Pasco County Juvenile Justice Council. The meeting ended at
2:55pm—thirty-five minutes early.
Next Council meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, October 26, 2006 at the
Seminole Community Library, 9200 113th Street N., Seminole, FL 33772. The
Council will appoint 6 members to the Circuit 6 Juvenile Justice Board at that
time.
PCJJC Chair Dave Plyer submits this report for the record September 28, 2006.
