We evaluated the purpose of the Needs committee to determine its relevance. The committee discussed the Juvenile Justice National Symposium that Tony Hinson attended on June 1-3, 2005 in Miami, Florida. He presented a series of datasets in the form of maps for review and feedback. We discussed how the committee could benefit from this type of data. For instance, looking at the total youth in Pinellas County and compare those statistics with the total number of referrals from the Department of Juvenile Justice, a series of maps can be generated identifying the clusters of referrals. We can then layer this information with JWB and DJJ programs to determine gaps and overlaps in service, if applicable. We will develop an action plan at the next Needs Committee meeting.
